Airport Fire and Rescue Operations – Aircraft, Map, and Firefighting Techniques Practice Test

Establishing a cordon around an aircraft incident relies on creating a clear, physical boundary and keeping the team intact to enforce it. By moving as a single unit and carrying the right equipment, Team 2 can quickly deploy a visible and stable boundary around the aircraft. Cones provide an immediate, easy-to-see perimeter so everyone knows where not to cross. Chocks placed against the aircraft wheels give a concrete barrier that also helps prevent accidental movement of the aircraft, anchoring the boundary in place. The ladder allows the team to reach and position markers and boundaries as needed, ensuring the perimeter is complete and easily referenced from different angles. Staying together ensures there are no gaps in the cordon and that the boundary can be adjusted cohesively as the situation evolves. This approach is more effective than scattering into separate zones or relying only on visual cues, which can fail in smoke, low visibility, or windy conditions.
